The Ark of the Covenant

2. The Ark of the Covenant
Joshua 3:11
Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is crossing over before you
into the Jordan.
Exodus 25:21-22
You shall put the mercy seat on top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the Testimony
that I will give you. And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above
the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the Testimony,
about everything which I will give you in commandment to the children of Israel.
Hebrews 9:4-5
which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold,
in which were the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the
tablets of the covenant; and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the
mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.
Manna
Exodus 16:32-33
Then Moses said, “This is the thing which the Lord has commanded: ‘Fill an omer with
it, to be kept for your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in
the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’ ” And Moses said to Aaron,
“Take a pot and put an omer of manna in it, and lay it up before the Lord, to be kept for
your generations.”
John 6:32-33
Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the
bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread
of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
Deuteronomy 8:2-3
And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in
the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether
you would keep His commandments or not. So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger,
and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He
might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every
word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.
Aaron’s budding rod
Numbers 17:10-11
And the Lord said to Moses, “Bring Aaron’s rod back before the Testimony, to be kept as
a sign against the rebels, that you may put their complaints away from Me, lest they
die.” Thus did Moses; just as the Lord had commanded him, so he did.

and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the

precious,
Tablets of stone

Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.
1 Kings 8:9
Nothing was in the ark except the two tablets of stone which Moses put there at Horeb,
when the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the
land of Egypt.
Romans 3:20
Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is
the knowledge of sin.
Galatians 3:22
But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ
might be given to those who believe.
Galatians 3:24
Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

but to fulfill.
Psalms 89:14
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
Mercy and truth go before Your face.
Mercy seat
Exodus 25:21-22
You shall put the mercy seat on top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the Testimony
that I will give you. And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above
the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the Testimony,
about everything which I will give you in commandment to the children of Israel.
Romans 3:21-25
But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by
the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ,
to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short
of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in
Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to
demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the
sins that were previously committed,
1 Samuel 4:4
So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from there the ark of the covenant of
the Lord of hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni

“Behold, the Man whose name is the BRANCH!
From His place He shall branch out,
And He shall build the temple of the Lord;
Yes, He shall build the temple of the Lord.
He shall bear the glory,
And shall sit and rule on His throne;
So He shall be a priest on His throne,
And the counsel of peace shall be between them both.” ’
Isaiah 6:1-3
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up,
and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six
wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
And one cried to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
Psalm 11:4
The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD'S throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His
eyelids test the sons of men.
His throne does not depend upon: voting, genealogy, popular opinion, the news media,
the church, America’s prosperity or adversity, war, but His own righteousness and
justice, which are as eternal as He is.
He is the Rock, His work is perfect;
For all His ways are justice,
A God of truth and without injustice;
Righteous and upright is He.”
(Deu 32.4).
Psalms 97:2-4
Clouds and darkness surround Him;
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.
A fire goes before Him,
And burns up His enemies round about.

The earth sees and trembles.

And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said, “This is the blood of the

The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within.
And they do not rest day or night, saying:
“Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!” Whenever the living creatures
give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and
ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship
Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: “You
are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were created.”
1 Samuel 6:19-20

throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting,
